Well, we thought we were in the clear! Just when we were being crushed by 10 days of rain and a roof that leaks, a kitchen floor with enough cement adhesive to hold together the Titanic and a bathroom wall that needed all memory of crazy Mr. Fixit removed and repaired, and all to be done by Monday, we got another addition to the list: more lice! And with it, the subsequent searching for the winning remedy, the magnifying glass that would let nothing escape it and the bandanna to keep us all from looking like greaseballs while we flitted about town eating dinner and doing yet more laundry at the local laundromat.
Did I remember to mention that we have no washer and dryer? I called "my guy", Don Stader (LOVE HIM!) and told him what dire straits we are in. We're going shopping for a new washer & dryer tomorrow and we should be operational by Thursday at the latest. No more evil trips down the stairs, through the two gates and out to the street (in the rain) with each and every bag of laundry. Repeat with clean clothes on the way back up.
Some day we *will* look back on all this and laugh, right?
And in the meantime, I give you my new list of Lice Destroying Attempts:
*Borax on the carpets & furniture: liberally. Then vacuum and hope that *your* vacuum doesn't stop working for no apparent reason during the process. Yes, really.
*Olive oil on the hair. I did this for 4 hours and then a wash with Dawn. Such a good/evil girl that dish soap is. Leave her on for at least 2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
*Rinse with vinegar. Close the eyes!!!
*Suave Coconut Shampoo & Conditioner. Rinse well.
*Hope that you have remembered to leave out a towel to use upon exiting the shower….there was one, hidden away in Round One plastic bags…all the others went to the laudromat with DH!
*Put on new clean clothes, procured in a wardrobe remix from Old Navy during the Olive Oil hours. Somehow that was *the only thing* (2 t-shirts, a skirt and some leggings) that I had to wear that might be remotely lice free. On they go.
*Dry hair on full tilt with new hair dryer to kill the remaining bugs.
*Spray the house and all heads of hair liberally with a mix of Tea Tree Oil/Lavender Oil/Rosemary Oil/Olive oil and some water.
Out the door to finish the laundry with the family, in the rain. Dinner? No. First night of ceramics class? No. Rain coat? No. Shiny, healthy looking hair with body like I've not seen on my own head in at least a dozen years? YES! Not sure if the bugs are gone but almost not caring because my hair feels terrific(!)?? YES!
Updates on bug-ness as they come in. We're going to run the Robi Comb through and see what we get. BTW I ordered this on Friday and it came TODAY. Seriously. Without the extra shipping. So happy!
